Emotion Artificial Intelligence
Timeline
Dec 2021-2023
About the project
Emotion artificial intelligence (EAI) is increasingly employed in contexts, such as mental health care and the workplace. In this project, I collaborated with members of the Marginality in Socio-Technical Systems (MiSTS) lab at University of Michigan’s School of Information directed by Dr. Nazanin Andalibi. We investigated people’s perceptions of EAI use in different contexts and how people perceive EAI may benefit or harm those subjected to such technology through a survey containing a visual analog scale (VAS) paired with open-ended questions. Our work aims to challenge EAI creators’ and adopters’ claims of the technology’s purported beneficial impacts.
My role
I analyzed qualitative survey responses regarding people’s perceived benefits and harms of EAI use in different contexts. I used thematic analysis to create codes and organize main themes. I led the paper writing and organization across members of the MiSTS lab.
