Shanley was born in Malolos, a city in the province of Bulacan in the Philippines. She was raised in the south side of Chicago, Illinois and is now in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Shanley completed her Bachelor of Science in Information at the University of Michigan’s School of Information (UMSI) with a focus on User Experience Design. She is now a Ph.D candidate at UMSI, advised by Dr. Julie Hui.

Shanley’s research trajectory began as a sophomore in high school when she joined her school’s first-ever robotics club in 2015. As the project manager of the club, Shanley needed to understand and keep track of all moving parts (literally and figuratively) in the club. Her passion for the STEM field grew ever since.

Outside of academics, Shanley is a powerlifter. Powerlifting is an individual sport, and the goal is to lift the most amount of weight for the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Shanley started powerlifting in 2021 but has been lifting since 2019 and was active during high school.

As a small side job, Shanley is a photographer, videographer, and a digital art creator. She mainly takes photos during powerlifting competitions, videos for social media content, and digital art for logos.
